My letter to the editor got published. My version was better. I guess they thought that calling the president a moron was over the line. You have to sign in and view annoying pop-up ads, so, here it is:
Change needed in Iraq
I was astonished by the opening line of your Sunday editorial recommending George W. Bush: "Americans want and need a president with a backbone steeled by courage." I'm not sure how the label courageous can be applied to a man who shirked completing his service to his country over one who served in combat with distinction.
Mr. Bush has indicated repeatedly that he intends to stay the course in Iraq. Taking action and receiving poor results are not necessarily a bad thing provided one learns from the mistakes of the past, adjusts to the facts and tries a new approach.
No such adjustment has occurred. Our stretched military is stuck in a hostile environment with no end in sight. As American soldiers die, attacks increase and the safe Green Zone becomes a bomb zone, Mr. Bush insists things are getting better. He is adamant that we continue on the same path.
Inflexibility is not courage.
