Violence

Violence is a contagious disease. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth will leave the world blind and toothless. I have contracted this soul sickness myself and unlearning violence is a difficult thing to do.

I don't think violence comes from the Divine. I think violence comes from selfishness.The Goddess did not bring us into this world filled with hatred. We learn how to hate by the choices we make.

You cannot say that abusive parents or a bad environment cause hate and violence because many children from abusive relationships and bad neighborhoods turn out well. It is the choices we make. A child steals another child's toy. The choice is there: fight to get it back, tell on him, let it go, ask for it back. There are options.

We don't teach our children the skills they need to survive in a nonviolent way.

Maybe we will survive ourselves long enough to learn better ways to handle the problems of this world. Goddess, I pray and hope so.
