Digital Peripheral Solutions Que!M3 Drives Disappoint
Freezing did not help with the hard drive. Nor did dropping it from 6 inches over a hard surface. It appears that I am going to have to pay to have it recovered. Ouch. Oh well, it could be worse. By the way, I purchased this hard drive on November 3, 2003 and it died on November 9th, 2004. Digital Peripheral Solutions, the company that manufactures the drive, warranties the drive for one year from the date of purchase.
My company sells a electronic/mechanical product for aquariums that is very expensive. We fudge and honor warranties on these items even a little past the end of the warranty as a customer service thing - so if the defective equipment is one year and one month old, we treat it as if it was still under warranty. Essentially we give the consumer the benefit of the time involved in ground shipping and assume a troublesome installation. One of the reasons we can afford to do this is that it has only happened twice that I am aware of.
Digital Peripheral Solutions is not going to do that, and that is fine. After all, it is past warranty. What pisses me off is that they are not even courteous enough to respond to me. Email or call and say, sorry, no. If you look up the Que!M3 or Que!M2 drives on the web, your first hits will be positive reviews. I am hoping that this entry will make it into the top 100 Google listings. Considering how much competition there is in the computer hardware field, rude companies who produce crap don't need to stay in business.
