Environmental Ramblings
I had written in an earlier post that the weather did not feel like August in Texas. That has not changed. It feels like early fall. I think there has been one day over 100F this summer and that is simply not natural. Often the temperature has not gotten over the mid-90’s, which is downright weird for this time of year. Looking at the forecast for the coming week, it is all rainstorms and mid-80’s.
There are those who will simply tell me to be grateful and enjoy the cooler weather. While I have no doubt their intentions are good, I can’t help but think about how the explanations about the expected global warming we are undergoing call for cooler weather in North America. They also call for more extremes of weather. That puts me in mind of Hurricane Charley.
Some say the end is near
Some say we’ll see Armageddon soon
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this
Bullshit three-ring circus sideshow of freaks
Tool, Aenima
Well, I don’t know if the end is near, and while I could use a vacation I no longer wish for Armageddon because that would harm a lot of people.
I am worried that we are destroying our beautiful planet as we know it. Scientists are talking about the sixth mass extinction in the history of the planet and what they are referring to is happening right now. If I choose to have children, they will not have the option of seeing gorillas in the wild because there will be none and chimpanzees are close behind. Elephants will probably be gone.
The scariest stuff that I am seeing is about our oceans and seas. The fish that are there are unfit to eat due to mercury levels. However, that is almost irrelevant because there are almost no fish left to eat anyway. Our oceans are vast, dead spaces because of overfishing.
Nonetheless, I am optimistic. Not only do I believe that the immediate threats to the environment will be removed in November (November 2—Get Out And Vote!), I also believe that many of the trends we are seeing can be reversed. Remember my post about putting solar panels on every roof? In addition we are at the start of a new age of privatized space exploration. That is where its at.
Mankind needs a new frontier and the sooner we get off this planet, the better. I know we are just taking baby steps now, but that is where I believe our future lies.
I wonder what it would be like to celebrate the Wheel of the Year on Mars? I bet before too long there will be Wiccans doing just that.
Goddess, Your grace fills me and I thank You because I am sober today. I woke up in bed with three beautiful women this morning (okay, one was a cat, one was a dog and the other was Lisa my wife—less exciting than it sounds, but wonderful nonetheless) and that would not have happened without You being in my life. Goddess, You are in charge today, I give it over to You. Please keep an eye on Laura B. who is recovering from surgery.
Thank You Lady, Blessed Be.
