The United States of America used to be a bastion of civilization, liberty and democracy. We were never perfect, but we always worked hard to do better. Now, we behave like the savages we used to fight against. One of the most unforgettable and horrifying photos of the holocaust for me was a photo of a young german soldier standing behind a Jewish woman holding her baby. He is in the act of shooting her in the head. This young soldier sent the photo home to his mother with the date and his signature on the back. Now our soldiers - United States soldiers - email photos to their wives of acts of torture and brutality. While these photos are absorbed by the world community, we plan forced labor camps for Fallujan men returning to the city.

I will never be ashamed to be an American patriot, which is exactly what I am. I am ashamed of my government. I am ashamed of a leadership that lets this happen. Every citizen of the United States should be.

Remember: we used to be the shining city on the hill. Used to be. Now, we are no different from any other dictatorial third world nation with rigged elections that uses goons to beat their neighbors into submission.

Now, time to pray and then back to fighting to restore the soul and honor of my beloved nation.
